2004 Season - Week 14

Running Strong.

Last nights Steelers-Jets game witnessed two of the league’s greatest running backs both pass 13,000 yards rushing. Jerome Bettis now has 13,037 career yards but he dropped to 6th on the all-time list as he was out paced by Curtis Martin who now has 13,049 yards to rank 5th all-time. So far this season Cu Mar has overtaken Thurman Thomas, Franco Harris, Marcus Allen, Jim Brown, Tony Dorsett and now Jerome Bettis. Next up is Eric Dickerson who has 13,259 yards. The top three will be a little harder to catch. Barry Sanders has 15,269, Walter Peyton has 16,726 while Emmitt Smith continues to increase his lead rushing for 63 yards this week, to extend the record to 18,103 yards. The lowest of the low. Paul has been fighting injuries all year long. Steve Smith and Terry Glenn have both been put on IR and currently Plaxico Burress and Kevn Barlow are missing action. Paul is worried that with 225 points after 14 weeks he could be setting a new low in futility. Well Paul is on pace for 273 points which would be just the third worst ever behind Dave G’s 1996 score of 280 but crucially ahead of David Stamps 1999 effort of 258 and the holder of the futility record set way back in 1998 when AP scored 241. Calendar Boys. After last weeks feature on AP detailed research has provided us with the best owners by each month based on both total points in the month and average points scored to ensure the new boys get some pub. Mark is Mr September scoring 1107 points across the 10 seasons he has been in the league, however Wayne (now in his fourth year) has the best average of 114.25 points. Johnny is Mr October with 1011 points with Wayne again getting the highest average (114). November also belongs to Johnny with 1117 points but Ron has the best average with 115.33 points across his 3 seasons so far. Johnny proves why he is the all-time points scorer by upsetting AP and being Mr December with 1372 points in the final month of the season. Meanwhile the defending Champ Wayne makes his third appearance in the calendar with a 138.25 average. BUMS on Seats.
